OMC Outdrive Model Designation

I have a 1974 OMC 3.0 Lt /140HP engine coupled to an OMC outdrive. The tag on the outdrive notes a model # of 980308. I have found an outdrive take-off with a model # of 980061. Can I directly swap the take-off for the original. Also does anyone know how to decipher the model number designations? For these two outdrives the first three numbers match but the last three numbers are different. Is the a table available that calls out what the separate digits denote as far as specs for the unit.

no, I have never seen any reference to those numbered drive model codes. It seems they were only referenced inside the factory. Best check might be just googling to stumble a cross threads where people are asking questions about their boats and referencing the numbers.
