OMC metal tank leak

My old metal tank started leaking at the gasket under the fuel gauge. I ordered a new gasket for it. Question is shuld I use a sealer of some type on the new cork gasket? Doesnt look like the old one had any on it. Thanks, Jim

Well the leak could very well be an o-ring on that fitting.-----See those 2 wee pins ?-----They are valves.-----When connecter is attached the pins are pushed in.-----One lets air into the tank and one lets fuel out.------Best to look at the parts picture and order 3 O-rings an 2 welch plugs to repair the tanks.-----I consider those to be the best tanks, certainly better than many cheap plastic ones.

I had it setting in the sun without the fuel line attached and could see that it was coming from the gasket but that reminds me that I do have a old evinrude cruise a day tank that them pins are leaking on and should have ordered the parts to fix that but forgot about that tank. I had tightened the screws that hold it in place and that semed to help a bit but a new gasket wasnt that much so I will replace it. Being as there was no sealant there before should I not use any?

Sounds good to me then. Havent received it yet but going to go without sealer being as there wasn't any there to start out with.

I once heard an old mechanic telling a customer....."Why you wanna use cement? What do you think the gasket is for"?
