OMC Cobra U-Joints

Hey guys I have a 1993 OMC Cobra Sterndrive.
I am going to get in and replace the u-joint bellows, exhaust bellows, gimbal bearing, and shift seal.
I am wondering how much play is acceptable in the u-joints when I get in there?
I pulled the drive earlier this year to grease them and noticed a small amount of slop which went away after I greased them.
If I have to replace them are there any cross referenced u-joints that will work I could possibly buy locally without ordering from west marine or sierra?
Thanks. Chris

Due to the small degree of articulation, Marine drive shaft "bearing crosses" are very hard to determine the condition of.
If you feel any slop at all, you'd better replace them.

I've been using the Spicer 5-1306X for years, and with very good luck with them.

Spicer is excellent quality and they have the grease fitting in the apex of the cross.
You can buy the 5-1306X through an OFF Road 4WD Center for a fraction of what you'll pay through a Marine Parts dealer.
(these are actually an older Chrysler car application, but the Marine Industry adapted these for their use)

Man thanks a ton!
I got the 315G's from O'reilly auto for 15.00 each and no waiting for shipping.
I'm gonna print off this page and keep it in my service manual.
