"I have an 88 cobra outdrive which I removed from my boat to do maintenance (grease u joints, replace bellows, etc..) The outdrive came right off with no effort whatsoever. I am attempting to put it back on and it seems to have gotten stuck. It will not go all the way on (comes about an inch or two short) Any ideas?

Thanks!"

"This can be a bit of a struggle, I built a stand to hold it at the right height, with casters underneath so I could slide it in, keeping the u-joints and shaft as lined up as possible. I use triple guard grease on the splines and motor oil on the 2 o rings on the shaft. Don't put too much grease on the splines because that can actually cause a problem. Make sure both the shifter and the drive are in neutral. The later model bellows was made bigger because sometimes the ujoints would hang up on the original bellows which were smaller in diameter. Mine was replaced a few years ago and the drive went on with just a little finessing. You should not have to kick it to get it on, when it lines up it will slide in within 1/8 of an inch of the pivot housing."

i get mine to that point and u

i get mine to that point and use a screwdriver to turn on the u joint assembly and it should fall right in.
