OMC Cobra Engine oil leak

"I have just purchased a 1988

"I have just purchased a 1988 Bayliner 2556 fitted with the OMC 5.7 engine in the UK. I have an engine oil leak which is coming from what appears to be an alternative oil dipstick aperture on the left hand side of the engine block above the starter motor. I searched the bilg and found a red plastic blanking plug which appears to fit the hole. I have fitted the plug back into the hole, is this correct and if so should the plug be glued into place. Any advise would be most welcome.

"who ever installed the engine

"who ever installed the engine they didn't install the plug that goes there. It's a round metal plug that you tap in with a hammer. When you buy a crate motor it comes with a kit of plugs to either plug the left or right oil stick hole, or both. The red plug is just a shipping plug and will come out again...."
