"I have the same 13 3/4 X 15 prop on my 87 bayliner capri with a 2.3 liter and I am able to hit 4600 rpm,s with a heavy load that's six people gear and coolers and pull a big tube. I believe that you have the right prop and your problem lies with engine perforance. I would start with testing the carb before the prop change"

The boat starts to choke out as soon as I start to close the choke. Timing light died have to get another one before I cn recheck the timing.

Think its about time I have it

Think its about time I have it placed on a dyno and have the problem pinpointed. I will let you know what I find out.

"did you do a vacuum test, the compression is spot on.

Goes back to one post where i asked you who did the valves they too tight?

And i got to say a 3.0 in a 22 footer is way under powered."

"Mike, just wondering how you made out. I had a post several weeks back about my 5.8 oomc crapping out at 3400rpm. I changed the fuel lines, filters, added injector cleaner etc. Runs like a top up to around 34 mph (should do 52). If I push the throttle the engine dies down. The last mechanic I talked to suggested testing with a dyno or checking fuel line pressure, of course all this testing is while under way. One mechanic hooked up to a computer, but no code was thrown. I like what one poster said about new tune up parts. This has been going on for three years and northern Pa summers dont last that long. Oh yeah, just dont tell your wife whats happening with the boat until its fixed, its just the code of the male boater."

"Mike, an out drive can rob your engine of Horse power.......be sure you are full of oil in outdrive. My boat started to loose speed and I never thought to check outdrive oil level, she was leaking oil thru the outdrive driveshaft into the belows. Upper outdrive brgs gauled and froze up....costly lesson for me, always check oil level in outdrive."
