Was reading on here a few post back about not running the omc with out it trimmed down. The post talked about the ball gears would not take much of this. Was just wondering if that went for all omc or just the stringer. Dont really no what i have it is on a 1990 model sunbird with a 4.3 liter. Was wondering if this applied to mine also. Have run it a few times in the yard on muffs with it all the way up.

"Yours should be a Cobra. Different deal, but not advisable to run it all the way up because it's hard on the U-joints. Doesn't have to be all the way down either."

"You have a Cobra unit, they began arriving on the scene in 1986. When you are running on muffs, its probably safe procedure to run the motor with the drive down. Although you do not have ball gears as the stringers do, it probably better for the u-joints. I don't know for sure, but i think it's a better idea to just run it down so the he u-joints are more in a horizontal position. Running the stringer in the driveway with the unit up probably won't cause too much of a problem as there is no load on the prop but its not designed to run with the tilt in any position but down."
