Omc 5o coil voltage

"points melted down,replaced them an roter,cap condencer ,coil. started great then. but coil volts show 12 on + side an 10 on - side of coil when runing, souldnt this be lower so points dont burn up?"

Mine shows + side 9 volts

Mine shows + side 9 volts going in from the resistor. Thats probably what went out on you . My res. is mounted under and behind the fuel pump near where the motor mount would be in an automobile application. Little square box about 2in. and 1/2 in. wide.
