Hello...I am not a mechanic or well informed on these things...but have had the same problem on a used 5 litre Cobra I bought and have had the boat to 5 marinas over the past 5 or six years...None would focus on the belt when I said the belt kept fraying, snapping and filling the engine compartment with black rubber and leaving me stranded all over the lake. All the above "remidies" were tried...several alternators, Many many belts, new water pump to make sure they were spinning at the same rpm, new pullies, many attempts to "realign"...all wasted effort and money. My nephew who knows large engines simply identified the prescribed belt as being woefully inadequate in size. We worked through about 8 belts to find one the right size and strength and it has worked great all summer. It is an A39. I had to adjust the tension once very little once it settled onto the pully after about two hours. Buy a bigger and thicker belt~!
