Omc 30 litre burns up coil Please Help

I have pontoon boat with omc 3

I have pontoon boat with omc 3 litre inboard runs great with new coil for one day next time we try to go out boat wont run? Changed coil last sat. boat started up no problem just tried today back to very little spark and boat wont run. Can anyone help.
 
Points or electronic ignition?

Points or electronic ignition??? Year???? Voltage at coil supply wire??? Exact replacement OMC coil??? Coil polarity correct???Some coils are not meant to run continuosly on 12 volts and are meant to be used with an external resistor or a resistance supply wire.
 
Yes changed points wires plugs

Yes changed points wires plugs cap everything boat ran great until we store boat that is when problems happen.

"I'd check ground first..... The only reason I say this, is...... My Boss had a car that kept burning coils. The Garage had it in several times to replace Coils. Turns out, the Tranny had been re-built, and when they re-installed it, forgot to re-hook the ground wire on one side.
He took my advice, and asked the Garage to check it..... End of story.I don't think he thought I knew what I was talking about, till he returned with the Car the next day. Said it hasn't ran better. I'm no Mechanic....just a plethora of tidbits of info...."

Thanks to all who answered!!!!I changed Postive cable and Ground which was a little bit of problem (helped turn over alot better).I ended up finding a short in a wire that goes to rpm gauge it had made contact under floor going to instrument panel. I changed that wire out and all is good!!!

Second of all I strongly recommend you get a service manual for your engine/drive setup. Go up to the top left side of the page and click on engine manuals or check on ebay for a good used one."
