omc 200 problem

i have a 79 omc 200 with a 800 stringer outdrive just boaght the boat had it out on the water for the first time and it ran fine in nuetral when i put it in gear it wanted to die seems like it was flooding out but at home on the muffs everything is ok when put in gear anybody know if this is a carb issue thanks
 
flooding out?, or starving for gas? (sounds like a lot of air being sucked in carb - often popping or backfiring under acceleration)

then have a look at the yellow/clear hose between the fuel pump and the carb. A ruptured pump diaphragm will dump lots of gas through that hose into the carb throat.
also watch the choke and make sure it is opening fully when warmed up

I did tune up oil change new water pump in lower unit and cleaned the carb with spray cleaner when I put it in water it was a test run I knew there still would be bugs to work out but just making sure it is a carb issue that it needs rebuilt

Run the engine on a external tank of fuel and check what pressure the fuel pump is giving.

Clean the fuel filter in the pump and the fitting that enters the carb

thanks for your help i will look at those items as well as rebuild carb and give you feed back
