Hi I have a rather nasty problem with the exhaust manifold in that it is corroded which allows salt water into the exhaust system. To weld a repair is not practical and I have not been able to find a replacement. Can anyone give any ideas where to get a new one or alternatives. All other aspects of the motor are in first class order. OK I no the one that comes to mind!

try budgetboats.net,thats the web site, you will have to call them,I saw one of those there that looked real good when I was looking for a gear set.

there is a company out of washington state that sells an aftermarket stainlee steel manifold. I can not remember there name I found them on the web. the manifold costs 2000 unfortuantly. I will try to see if I can find them again and post their neme on heree for you

the name of the company is aaamarine and the cost has went up since the last time I looked it is now $2,300. hey thats a 100 dollars for every 10th of a liter

Thanks for interest in my problem, whilst 2000 is a lot. the alternative could prove even more. I would be interested should you find them again. As a temporary repair I intend to try the best of the plastic metals I do not hold out much hope but the idea of stainless gives me the idea that I may fabricate one instead to give a permanent solution.

Thanks again wmlaks, add the delivery cost and import duty it becomes rather a lot. I will check with them to see what they say. My thoughts are that they may sell a copy of the design which I can have made up in U.K. Our previous messages crossed but your help does give some encouragement .

Choices:
  • Let loose of the $2,300, and purchase the AAAMarine manifold.
  • Pull the Ford 2.3L and install a good used GM 3.0L. I'm sure that with the right parts, this could be done. You would have $2,300 to work with.
  • Find a donor boat with the Volvo Pent OHC 4 and drive..... and do a complete engine/drive swap. Again, $2,300 to work with.
Here is an OMC 3.0L GM engine.

transom shield is different between 2.3 and 3.0
outdrive gear ratio is drastically different between the 2.3 and 3.0
he would need a new drive - pretty sure the 2.3 had different gearing both upper and lower

buy the manifold for $2300 - the US dollar is weak right now. might be a temporary opportunity

option 2 - part the boat

option 3 sell as is
