Hi
Can anyone help ? I have an 1989 bayliner capri 2.3 ford omc cobra and this is the problem !
I just bought the boat and the previous owner showed me it running before I bought it but after getting it home and putting a new deep cycle battery in it cos the other one was flat it wouldnt start,i turned it over alot and the best I could get was 2 or 3 seconds of it running before it cut out,Its getting a spark and is getting fuel, the cut of switch is bypassd so its not that, its driving me mad lol ! I have only had a small outboard boat in the past and dont know enough about inboards yet to fix this myself so any advice would be great.
thanks folks.Bo

just a guess but im betting you have a sticky lower shift cable and the shift interrupter is sticking or acting up, also known as the CDI unit. check where the shift cable is on the back of the valve cover, there is a cammed plate that has the upper and lower cables on it, check to make sure the bellcrank is sliding . get a manual, it will help.
