Older mercury 4 hp

I was just given a mercury 4hp serial number 5590507 it has not been started for 10 years, I know very little about motors and taking my time. Right now I am stalled on the fuel off/on knob on the side, I can’t get the knob off and the fitting connected if stopped up with old fuel. Any suggestions would be appreciated, new to Forum

Canada built 4 hp. Push in on the connecter (hard) and twist counter clockwise
