From what I've read, the TD20 is a very good engine. As long as it has good compression.
I don't know what numbers are good.
If you go to the Antique outboard collector
club,
http://www.aomci.org/index.htm
On the "ASK A MEMBER" page. Ask for "Loyd"
He is an expert on the Johnson TD/HD series.
I have a TD20 that sat for 20 some years.
It was stuck when I got it. I put Kroil penatrating oil in the spark plug holes and
every time I walked past I would try to turn
it over by hand. After about two weeks it broke
loose. I gassed it up and it started forth pull!
It is probably the best runner I have.
The carbs can be tricky, but Loyd can talk you through any problems you might have.
Good Luck!
