Old johnson 50 not turning off by key

"I have an old johnson 50 that will not shut off by the turn of the key... there is a purple wire that i do not know where it goes, is this the problem? where does the purple wire go.. please help"

Please help me solve this problem... I can turn on the motor with the key but it will not turn off with the key. How can i fix this?
 
I was thinking it's a 1957

I was thinking it's a 1957 or so "fat fifty" 87 is new to this crowd. You should have a mag powered cdi. Have tried grounding your wire when running (just for a second). Try and find your over board switch and see what color that wire is. Or wait for "Grahmn" to get back -he has a library of just about everything.
