Do I need it in Forward gear and how to unhook the shifter.

"Serial number?? Year??? Some of the older motors require powerhead removal to undo the shifter...later models do not and on those motors, the shift connector is accessed after the lower unit is dropped...I believe 1967 and later do not require removal"

"I am also trying to change a water pump impeller on Mod # E6RLETB , an Evinrude from the 80's or 90's. It was built in Belgium. My repairman needs help to get into the place where the impeler is. One of the bolts has the head broken off. Any advice would be so helpful."
