giday from australia!i recently purchased an old swiftcraft boat with a 3litre mercruiser inboard with alpha 1 leg (1988).i am finding a small amount of green/blue oil and small amount of water in bilge after i go for run in the boat.is it gear oil?what could be the problem?any advice would be greatly appreciated..thanks.

im almost certain that the oil is from the outdrive i would take some degreaser and clean that area real good there to locate your leak as for the water it could be a nuber of things first i would make sure that you have drained most or all the water from the bilge by tilting the front of the boat up as far as your trailor jack will allow you let it drain out the back the dry the rest with old towles. how much water are we talking? the water may just be a little that always seems to find a place to hang out in the hull then appear when you least expect it but if its just a wee bit it try drying it up and try it again as far as the lube leak someone will be on today with more knowlage on where to start looking for it

Does the OD have an oil reserv

Does the OD have an oil reservior? Check it for cracks around the hose connection.

"Did the boat sit for a long time before you bought it? Your seals and rubber could be dried out and cracking. Especially in an arid place like Australia.

That means you have a job ahead of you replacing seals, hoses, bellows, etc. If not, your drive bellows could fail and sink the boat as well as rust and corrosion on the U-joints. Or water can get into your drive and then you will be buying another one. Good luck."
