Oil weight change?

I went to my Volvo Penta dealer to pick up some 30w oil. I was told that Volvo has dropped the 30w and replaced it with 10w40. Both are syn. oils.

Is this true?

10W30 sync sounds more in line to me depending on how many hours your engine has, others here would know better what is the model number of your motor?

Sorry... I have a 2000 5.7l GS. 30w is what I have been using as per the owners manual. They also listed 20w50 that I could not find and one other.

10w40 will work, as the oil warms up it will (or should) get thicker towards the 40 area. Usually when I use one product I tend to stick with it. I don't use the boat during our wet 40*F winters.

You cannot go wrong by following the owners manual. If it has been working for you for the last 12 years you must have done something right. :)

Also, you don't have to buy oil from the Volvo dealer. You can get 30W synthetic in many places and in a variety of brands, and probably cheaper than what you get at the VP dealer.
