Oil system problem

" I have a 1997 Johnson 150. My problem appears to be within the oil injection system. On cold starts after the motor sits for about 4 weeks. Seems to occur when the motor is left in the up position for the 4 weeks. The motor has a very hard time starting and once it does start, there is a big oil burn off. Quite a bit of smoke. Looking at the fuel line coming in to the oil sytem, I discovered that prior to starting ther was quite a bit of oil already mixed with the gas before the oil injection area. It appears that oil is somehow bleeding into the gas before the proper time and then again at the right time. Onc the oil is burned, the problem goes away ant the engine runs fine all day. Again, it appears to be occuring when I leave the engine tilted up. I do not want to remove the system.

When I push the prime bulb gas squeezes out of the chamber that the cone filter fits into. Is this normal?

Will replacing the pump solve this problem?

Is theier another divice besides the pump that could be bad? "

"Joe..... When you say "When I push the prime bulb gas squeezes out of the chamber that the cone filter fits into. Is this normal?"

If you're speaking of the cone fuel filter that is contained within a clear like plastic container that has a screw on cap, the filter that is clamped in the fuel line before fuel is delivered to the VRO... and if you're saying that fuel is leaking out of that fuel filter assy when you pump the fuel primer bulb, no, that's not normal.

If that filter is leaking, there is nothing to stop the fuel from siphoning backwards from the VRO system which in effect would cause the fuel/oil mixture to change (more oil than gas). When starting the engine, it would need to burn off the excess oil before the mixture returns to normal.

I may have misunderstood what you're explaining, but if that filter's leaking, fix that first, then try again to see if the problem ceases to exist.

" There is a square plastic assembly about 3 inches square that has four screws and a thin top. This is where the filter cone screws into. When I prime the line and put preassure, fuel begins to squeeze out of the sides of the assembly. Where the fuel line screw on I have a good seal with no leaks. During normal running there is no fuel leaking. It is only when I squeeze the bulb. I thought this was unusual and a possible clue to the problem. I am afraid to spend $250 on the pump when there appears to be other parts around the oil pump. I don't think that this assembly I am referreing to is the pump, but it could be. I need to get a diagram of the pump area. "

"Joe.... The VRO pump is a rat

"Joe.... The VRO pump is a rather large black plastic like item. A hose runs from the top portion of it to the carburetors. The bottom of it has a pressure/vaccum hose running to the crankcase, a fuel hose, and a oil hose. There are wires running from the back of it that lead to a rubber plug in type connector. That item should not be leaking under any circumstances.
