Oil sensor

Was wondering if there is a se

Was wondering if there is a sensor in the main oil tank on my 150 optimax. It seems that there is a sender in the tank for the smartcraft system would that include a sensor? I know there is a sensor in the reserve tank mounted on the engine. it is a 2001 if it matters
Thank you.

"Based on the diagrams i have

"Based on the diagrams i have looked at Richard i'd say no, there is not a sensor in the main tank only a sender, as the main tank is emptied and it goes to reserve only then would a low oil sensor be required. obviously the two stage tank work in conjuntion with each other, i dont know a great deal about them but i do know they run better removed and u just premix 50:1 ratio in the fuel tank. but thats another story.

"Brent, that's an interest

"Brent, that's an interesting comment and I can see the merits of removing the mixer, especially as you are removing an alarm source. Got any details on how to achieve all of this?"

We Have a 1993 Mariner 2 strok

We Have a 1993 Mariner 2 stroke 90hp outboard. After about two minutes running on land with some ear muffs for water supply. There was a constant alarm signaling either low oil pressure or over heating due to lack of water. The oil tank is full and water was coming out of the oil and prop. not as much as usual but it was warm. The alarm circuits are notorious for false alarms and we had it serviced just before we stored it before winter. Anything to be worried about?

"Harry, first off, nice motor.

"Harry, first off, nice motor. The constant alarm (steady tone) should be an "overheat", but yes, as you mention, the temp sensors are horrible for dying an early death.

If your impeller is less than 2 years old, the thermostats appear to be in good shape and you have a reasonable tell tale stream, I would bet that the sensor has simply died on you.

If you are sure that it is cooling properly you can disconnect the temp sensor (two wires on the pigtail going up to the cylinder block) until you get around to donating 20 bucks or so to Merc for a new one...."

"Stewart/Brent - great idea &#

"Stewart/Brent - great idea (removing the oil injection) on a normal 2 stroke, but you can't do it with an OPTI. The gas is injected directly to the cylinders. The oil is mixed with air and sucked in through the crankcase.

Mixing oil with the gas on a direct injected motor can cause severe headaches with the direct injectors.

The normal fuel injectors that supply the fuel rails probably wouldn't mind so much, but they are only half of the equasion.

If you can be diligent about keeping oil in the tanks, you could get by with disconnecting the sensors. The only service they provide is telling when you are low on oil - they do NOT let you know if the the system fails to function...."
