Oil seeping from the 2 stroke reservoir.

Have got 2 stroke oil seeping from the reservoir of 2004 30HP yamaha. Seems to be coming from the part circled in the photo. If it a sensor unit?
Wondering if it could be a split seal ring. Is it easy to get the top off, or will it mean removing the fly wheel first?

That is the cap for what Yamaha calls an oil level gauge assembly. The assembly has to come straight up out of the tank.

Rather than removing the flywheel I think it would be more practical to unbolt the oil tank so as to lean the tank out. To get the clearance needed to remove the old assembly and install a new one.

But first I would try a zip tie fastened around the cap of the assembly. To hopefully make it seal better.
