Hello Guys !

I recently bought a Chaparral 265 SSI with a aftermounted Mercruiser 7.3 Diesel engine with a Bravo III X .

After just a few hours of driving , about 2 hours .
I realised that the driveplate needed to be replaced , I had to lift the enginge to replace the parts .

After doing this the sound disappeared and I thought everything was ok!

But after driving for about 1 hour with the boat att 25 knots the enginge has swallowed about 3 liters of enginge oil?!

I Filled her up again and drove back home but this time in 5-6 knots .

And again the enginge has swallod almost the same amount of oil =(

Now to my question!

What could be wrong ?!

The enginge doesnt smoke much at all ! When Im in cruising speed there is no smoke AT ALL !
But when i accelerate there is a small amount of black smoke when the turbo i charging up .

There is no oil in the cooling water , No oil in the enginebay , no water in the engineoil what so ever ..

Any Ideas ?

Sorry for my bad english , But I hope you guys can understand :)

Best regards Robin from sweden .

If memory serves me correctly the 7.3 was a Navistar V-8 configuration. Have seen other diesels with turbo chargers using oil like this - one even continued running to destruction, could not shut it off. Again, I believe the cause was a leaking seal in the turbo. It is cooled by engine oil and a leak sends the oil into the air supply and is burned in the cylinder just like diesel fuel. Additional fuel equals a rich condition equals additional smoke.
