Oil Pressure

Normal running I'm getting around 40-45 PSI oil pressure. Last time out my gauge suddenly started bouncing erratically......needle deflecting HARD down to 0...then back to 40-45 PSI again. Did this a few times. Faulty gauge? Faulty wiring? I haven't had a chance to check the wiring yet.

Thoughts please?

What engine and year? Ground the wire on the oil pressure sender and see if the gauge pegs. If yes, gauge and wire ok. Put a manual gauge in place of the sender to get a pressure reading. If good then replace sender. Failing OP senders jump around alot.
 
since this is moving rapidly most times a bad wiring connection. if the oil pressure droped over a couple of seconds then this may be a oil pressure problem. since it goes from zero to normal rapidly , I would check these connections..
 
Thanks...I was leaning towards the sender or the wiring...just haven't had a chance to check either yet. Will soon.
