Oil pressure sensor came out and engine seized

Buoys

Hi, there is an oil pressure sensor on the port side of the engine block at the rear, near the bottom, which activates a buzzer. During use, this fell out, oil was lost, no alarm sounded and the engine seized. Has anyone experienced this? The engine had been rebuilt a couple of years ago and since then has run smoothly with holiday usage. I have not seen this fault on any forum, and looking at the sensor, find it hard to believe it has just unscrewed. engine is a 5.7 gsi.
any comments welcome

I'd have to say that this is almost unheard of.
For this to have come loose and to have fallen out, someone likely failed to install it correctly.

Thanks, That's what i thought - can direct me to a drawing of the part or similar so I can see exactly how it is fitted?

A commonly used port for the oil pressure gauge sending unit, is in this location.

The N/O low oil pressure switches are commonly installed in this location.

A possible failure mode was that the sender was either cross threaded and threads stripped or over tightened and threads stripped. Alternatively, sender came apart at the seam, i.e. as if someone with very large feet stepped on it.

More than likely the sender wasn't screwed in tight.
The starting of an engine and apply'n pressure then shutting off,no pressure.Repeat this a bunch of times and it can/maybe push it out/unscrew it.
You ever had a light bulb stop working and touch it and find it needed to be screwed back in.
The throwing the switch creates a spark and sometimes the bulb actually unscrews.
No idiot light or gauge?

Many thanks for your responses on this. I took the enclosed photo under the engine and it appears the sensor has come apart, rather than fallen out. There were three bits including a spring in the bilge. Has anyone come across this before and a possible cause? It appears to me that the engine was rebuilt and the the sensor was not replaced so it may be the original which could be 10/12 years old
