Hello everyone, looking for some advice please.
We have a 20-year-old Volvo Penta D2-75 and we’re getting oil in the coolant. This isn’t the first time it’s happened. Previously we stripped the engine down and found a lot of sludge on top of the cylinder head and very oily exhaust ports. We cleaned everything thoroughly, replaced the head gasket, and fitted new head bolts.
After reassembling, the engine starts and runs fine, but we’re still losing both water and oil, and once again there’s oil in the coolant.
Since owning the boat we’ve always had to top up water and oil regularly. At one point, one of the heat exchanger bolt holes started seeping coolant, which we temporarily sealed with epoxy – so corrosion is clearly an issue. There’s no smoke from the exhaust.
I’m starting to suspect internal corrosion in the cylinder head or somewhere similar. Has anyone seen this before or have any suggestions on what to check next?
