Oil Mix

Just got a hand me down 1996 30hp two stroke Yamaha with no owners manual. I am told the ratio is 100:1, but I have always used 50:1 and that ratio seems really lean. Did a forum search and found that there was a 1988 OMC bulletin recommending that owners of 100:1 engines use 50:1 if the engine is not used frequently. Just wondering if anyone knows if that recommendation is still in effect, would apply to later year engines and/or if anyone has any advice on this issue. Thx.

I would run that engine at 50:1 --------Some 30 HP models in 96 had automatic oil injection.------------This topic on oil mix likely will never go away.------The more oil is used the longer a motor will last !-----------There must be a reason why some motors from the 50 / 60's are still running like new.---------It is amazing how a motor can be run at 24:1 one year and a factory recommending 50:1 the following year without any changes to the engine.------------Marketing ? ------Also lack of knowledge by the general public allows this to happen as well.---------People are easily swayed by advertizing and the modern media !

Great insight. Thanks.
