Get a survey, most times includes a hot and cold compression test.Bad rings would mean a complete teardown. Might need a bore, may be a cracked ring, cyl. walls may be gouged.
Unless your mechanically inclined,RUN AWAY FROM IT.

You don't say what engine or year. Bad valve seal would cause the problem.

why even consider this boat. What you like headaches ?

Even when a guy says the boat is perfect, you bring a compression gauge setup. Me i bring also a pressure tester for the drive. But thats me. And i do a vacuum test.

That is even before we go on the water for the water test.
