Oil in coolant reserve bottle.

Hi, 2004 350 crusaders 270hp fwc with v-drives, while removing heat exc. On startboard engine, noticed oil mixed in the water/coolant, engine has been running hot lately, spark plugs are ok and oil looks good no signs of water in it. This might sound like a damage head gasket, please give me some ideas, thanks
i suspect that the risers need replacing ,they are close to four years old.
 
thanks for answering my post, i will check this weekend with mechanic but wanted to hear from you guys before we start . yes , could be but the oil found in reserve tank looks motor oil color, transmmission's oil would be red right?
 
Think the gear is cooled by the raw circuit so that's not like to be the source. Think the riser issue may be related to the overheat but is independent of the oil in the coolant.

I'd do a pressure test on the cooling system for a start. Also, any work done to the engine in the past? Oil could be residual for that type of activity. Also, how much oil did you find in the coolant?
 
Hi Mark,thanks for your advice, I totally agree with you. the u-cooler, the one my system has is double, engine oil and tranny but it is cooled by raw water. yes the riser is the cause of overheating, yesterday we put back the HE. on both engines and took boat out and the same temperature problem with my starboard engine. I'll do a pressure test on the cooling system before inspecting risers. Thanks again and your advice is appreciated.
 
Hi guys, I wanted to ask you if by doing a compression test, would be able to khnow if the engine has a head gasket leak to the water jackets?
