Oil Filter Fixture (scewed mount)

Just an observation. I had to cut off the oil filter the previous owner installed. I tried starting the engine to get the oil hot, used a 4’ persuader (bent my good wrench and dented wall of filter), etc, etc. When I removed the filter, I noticed there was nothing but the filter outlet and a screwed nipple. There was nothing for the rubber filter oil ring to mate too (raised surface-like car?). In other words, the oil filter fixture had no special surface for the O-ring it was just a plain painted black surface just like the other surfaces of the engine.

It know begs the question was the previous filter super tight because it leaked? Is the new Sierra filter I just installed going to leak? Is this how Mercruiser designed the oil filter fixture, or has there been a update to prevent oil seal leaks? And I know how to pre-lubricate O-ring seals and always pre-fill all filters.

mercruiser did not design the filter mount. It is GM

The engine is GM

And yes there is a flat surface............double check................if not then you have an odd ball.

More than likely the previous owner did not put any oil on the oring...............I have had factory installed oil filters that required demolishing to get off.

Yes, the problem is not the threaded nipple in the fixture base, it's the filter o-ring holding it. When I tore away the o-ring it screwed right -off
