Oil filter alternatives 5.0L

I have a 1995 5.0L mercruiser and was wondering the alternative oil filters I can use for the 14957 quicksilver part number. I have a STP s5 that I had for my chevy car. Will that work? I think FRAM is PH5 but I'm not sure if I can use those.

And also what oil should I be using. I have SAE40 here at the house. Would that work? It's usually quite warm here.

Thank you for the pdf. I see it cross references to the PH30 but I did put the PH5 in since i have them stocked for my car. Only difference I can see is that it's longer. I put the SAE HD-40 oil in. Anybody have any advice on the oil now?

I would stay away from FRAM filters because they have paper end caps holding the filter media together...prone to collapsing and not filtering the oil. Since you use straight 40 wt. oil I would be concerned about it. Research FRAM oil filter failures on YOUTUBE. Since the engine is a GM I would use AC Delco if I could not get the Merc. filters. I saw the Merc. filter on eBay for about $8 each by the 6 pack. I agree w/kghost and Mobil 1 15W50 synthetic.
