"I recently bought a boat that had been sitting for 2 yrs. The engines start and run but seem to smoke really bad (whiteish color smoke.) They are a pair of 1993 225 ocean runners with the VRO2 still connected, when I disconnected the fuel line after the in-line fuel filter and pumped gas into a glass jar I noticed the fuel was mostly oil. What is causing oil to flow back into the fuel line. I also connected a seperate gas can with fresh fuel and ran them with the same results. Is this a sign of a bad VRO pump."

"1. The oil tank is not venting properly and pressurizing, forcing oil into carbs.
2.Someone has disconnected fuel line, and allowed engine to run(trying to run carbs dry).
3.Defective check valves in Vro pump--replace pump-----this MUST be done according to the FACTORY service manual."

"If You disconnected BEFORE engine, there is no way oil can go to the tank. Sure it was not only 'smelly' old fuel from the tank? If previous owner have added oil to the fuel in the tank, it might have been 'geled' out and been sucked up by the pick up. Suggest You try either to clean out the tank, might be needed anyway, or try to run on a seperate tank for test, just note that those engines needs 3/8 fuel lines all the way from the tank, including pick-up tube.and connectors!"
