Oil and Zinc

outboards, inboards...you may wanna be a bit more specific. And define your criteria for "best" as its very subjective.

I've got 1985 Chrysler 360's and am told that the newer oil is going to destroy the camshaft. Is there a preferred oil, zinc or not, that should be used in older engines?

This can be an issue as zinc has been removed for oil of new engines, maybe because of injector fouling. Check the Royal Purple site on the Chrysler forum on this site.

The reason ZDDP has been reduced in newer oils is that ZDDP can foul catalytic converters.
But I wonder how much of a issue running the newer oils in flat tappet lifter engines is really an issue.
They say you need a minimum of 1400 to 1600 ppm of ZDDP for proper protection of the flat tappet lifters.
Most SM or SN rated modern oils run in the 800 ppm ZDDP levels.
