"In the last 30 days or so, I have had a crazy problem with my engine that was not the most obvious to diagnose. While there were a few arrows pointing in the coolant direction, no clear ID could be made easily. It turns out to be coolant leaking into the crankcase while underway. The coolant mixed into the oil then got hot enough to solidify the glycol in the coolant creating enough sludge in the crankcase to clog the oil filter, lowering the oil pressure to under 20 PSI 20+ miles out of Barnegat Inlet, NJ.

IT WAS THE $22.00 OIL ANALYSIS that detailed the contents of the oil to clearly show the problem. The test results amazed me. Calcium, magnesium,tin,lead, copper, sodium, the list goes on and on as well as to why these elements may show up and compares them to the standards of normal operation.

At 50 years old I have had blood tests that were less detailed. I will be an dedicated oil analysis user and for anyone who has never had this performed I would recommend this to anyone who may need to know what may be developing before it could be too late...."

"you can get this done at most of your heavy equipment houses (cat, detroit, cummings) or they will steer you in the direction of a reputible lab. they rely on these readings for maintenance and prevent maint. more then you would know. most equipment runs fluids till the sample states change me now instead of an hr length or milage length."
