Odd oil question

I know that Quicksilver oil is all 25w-40 for Merc engines. But my 3.0 4-cylinder clearly says on the oil filler cap to use 10w-30. What is up with that?

Assuming the filler cap was OE, that was one of the recommendations made at the time of assembly.

As a rule, the oil recommendations provided vary based on use/environment and ambient temperature, and are subject to change over time. there are other parameters, besides viscosity, that need to be considered as well...when in doubt, look in your owner's manual...or call the factory tech support dept....
