I have a 1968 LM318 in my Ski

I have a 1968 LM318 in my Ski Nautique. I have run both regular and high octane unleaded fuel. Performance wise I cannot notice any difference. Should I be using one over the other?

PS: My brother got back from a hot date way out in the country one night by burning some kerosene in his 51 Hudson. It didn't like it, but he made it back. Mixture was probably 75 % gas to 25 % kero."
