The engine tag on my 238 hp Fireball states the engine requires premium fuel. What are some views on fuel octane.
Thanks

I have greater concerns regard

I have greater concerns regarding ethanol fuels than octane in marine use. In my area the fuels at the marine pumps are typically 92 octane. I have had\helped with several issues related to the stability of ethanol older than several months in the marine environment. Toward the end of my season I run the tank down and make a trip to the marina that has non ethanol fuel. It absorbs less water and does not gel like ethanol fuel does.

All the marina's in the SE Michigan and NE Ohio area are non Ethanol fuel, but if your filling your boat from a street fueling station you need to watch out for ethanol fuel, I think most of the people that trailer their boats do fuel at street fueling stations because of the cheaper price. I dock my boat and you are not allowed to bring in your own fuel, even if its diesel. But 89 octane is regular and 92 is the mid grade very few marina's sell premium 94-96 octane. most marine eng's are 8.5-9.5 compression ratio.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
