Obtaining serial number for engine 2006 40 hp

I have a 2006 Mercury 40HP BigFoot engine on my pontoon boat. I went to get the serial number so that I could order a maintenance manual for the engine from Mercury but the sticker has come off the engine and I know of no other way to obtain the serial number. Mercury states that they need the serial number to provide me with the correct manual. Any help that I can obtain would be appreciated.
