NS5B water leaking from midsection inspection plug

Hi all,

First post on this forum, and a bit of a newbie when it comes to the NS5B. I've been running this outboard for a few seasons now, and recently noticed a water leak coming from the clutch adjustment inspection plug on the midsection.

I pulled the motor off the boat and ran it in a garbage can filled with water. The exhaust is pressurizing midsection/driveshaft cavity and pushing a small bit of water past this plug.

This seems odd to me that any bit of water should be in the midsection. Is this normal? If not, any suggestions of possible areas of investigation?

Planning to drop the drive oil tomorrow and see if water has contaminated this oil.

TIA

Tyler

Water is in the midsection to help cool exhaust so prop hub isn't destroyed! Sounds like exhaust housing in mid section needs some attention, possible gasket leaks!!

No. There aren't any gaskets there. Odds are the grommet used to access the shift coupler has dried and shrunk, and is weeping. No biggie. The vast majority of cooling water exit with the exhaust. Only a tiny fraction exits via the pee tube.
