Hello Guys,
I am first time boat owner and outboard motor owner. I bout a 5hp nissan motor ns5b which has a few issues. It cranks up after like lot of pulls on a cold day. The Choke seems to be useless as i can pull the choke all the way and it seems to try to start but doesnt. After that i have to push the choke in and leave it there for the rest of the pulls to get it started. I recently replaced the fuel lines because after a few uses i felt the power was not right. When i replaced the lines i found some debris in the on off valve for the fuel line to the carb. There also was not a fuel filter. I added a fuel filter and new lines. The spark plug has been gapped and changed to specs. Made no real difference. I notice that when i turn off fuel to the carb - before it dies the motor seems to work great as in it accelerates very fast and works the way i believe it should. The other day i dont know what i did but i was able to finally get it running good for the whole tank of gas. I normally get 5 mph i was getting close to 13 mph easy and the boat planed as it should. After the fuel was used i added more fuel and it went back to crappy. IS there anything i can look at next to get this thing running?? May fuel pump or could the carb be clogged??? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
John
