"I was wondering if anyone have heard of the spring inside of the elec choke going bad??? I rebuilt the carb (had someone do it for me) and and replaced Head and gasket... Spark plugs, wires, coil, and starter. ( 86 140 hp mc/with a mc carb) I also not sure about the acc pump, but I do know it was replaced with the rebuild... Other the the flate spot in take off, and she is running great. I can feather right through it and it is fine after that spot. (40mph at 5000rpm) (I didn't stay at that speed because it only has a 4800 limit)"

"Yes, the spring in the choke

"Yes, the spring in the choke tends to loosen up over time.
I don't think that's your problem though. If the choke was staying shut, you'd see black or brown smoke, and it wouldn't run nearly as well as you're describing.
Perhaps ignition timing or the accelerator pump may be suspect. There are three different settings for the crank lever on the accelerator pump (May be on later models only). You could be either getting too much or not enough fuel from the accelerator pump."

"I'm thinking it is the acce pump. I know it was replaced, but I don't know if their is a way to change setting or is just installed?"
