1979 Evinrude 85hp 85999R
I am rebuilding my starter. Are there any tricks to getting the nut off that holds the bendix on? I can not get it to budge. Also I read that the nut can not be re-used is this true?

"The nut can be reused BUT apply lock-Tite to the armature threads as a precaution.

Use a 3/8" drive air tool with the proper socket to remove and install that bendix drive nut.

Trick??? Put a wrench on the nut and a wrench on the thingy that moves up and it will come off.

What Mr. Reeves said. Ain't much to hold onto when loosening the nut. I use an electric impact wrench so I don't have to set up the compressor for small jobs.
