Not firing

I am a newbie and looking for some help. Took my boat to a "mechanic" for some maintenance. I forgot the key so I said I'll just go get it and come back he said dont worry about it he hot wired it, let it run changed the oil, spark plugs and plug wires. Then hot wired again this time he put the jumper from + side of battery to - side of coil. Now the motor has no fire, I replaced the coil. Do you guys have any suggestions? It's a 88 omc 2.5 4cyl thanks in advance

change the points they are likley cooked

It has the electronic conversion so I assume that it would be fried then.
