My 1999 5.0 305 volvo penta is currently running about 155 to 160. Is this the correct running temperature for my boat. Thanks

"Is it an enclosed, coolant system or is it a raw water system? If raw water, is it operated in fresh water or salt water"

Jim is correct. You should hav

Jim is correct. You should have a 160 degree thermostat. If you were to run it in the ocean you would need a 143 degree.

"Per DYI magazine, you need to

"Per DYI magazine, you need to use the same T-stat regardless. Something about a lack of back pressure causing water to boil in the block.

"With closed cooling, not bein

"With closed cooling, not being able to pressurize it is the same as doing it with a car and the coolant can boil. With raw water, there's a constant flow of coolant going through the block and it'll never reach normal operating temperature, which means that it won't be very efficient. A cold motor doesn't have complete combustion, therefore, less power and wasted fuel."

"Hello....I HAD an overheating

"Hello....I HAD an overheating problem on my 2000 Volvo 4.3 Gl/Sx..It would only overheat at high rpm's..I went ahead and changed te stat and the impeller with no results..So, I threw in the towel and brought it to a Volvo dealr..They found that the Grommet in the lower unit had slid up the water tube and the orings/seals were bad and replced (This caused air to be sucked in)..NOW, I cant get the temp to go above 100 degrees at WOT, in fact, the temp gauge goes up to about 120 at idle????? This make NO sense to me. Normally an engine would cool at idle and be hotter at WOT...If they took out the T-stat would that cause this? It seems as if the Temp gauge is actually operating in reverse??????? Help"
