I am new to the forum and would appreciate some advice from the collective wisdom of the group.
Due to a raw water, (lake water only), impeller failure, I seriously overheated my engine to the point of melting the plastic sleeve on the exhaust pipe. I replaced the impeller and the motor is just not running right. It will idle and run at 2000 RPM with water temp at about 150 F - normal for this boat. When pushed onto plane and above 3,000 RPM the water temp starts to climb and approach 200 F. As I reduce RPM and speed, I notice that the engine is running rough - feels like mis-firing and I can smell unburnt fuel.
I pulled the plugs and #3 & 4, the aft two cylinders, do not look normal. The plugs are fouled and dirty.
So, what have I done? Cracked the exhaust manifold? Will a compression test tell me anything useful?
Thanks in advance for any guidance.
