1976 silverton had crusaiders new 5.0s engs replaced with 350 long blocks mal dis edelbrock carbs engs run great. orig v drives and trans.changed oils this spring.took it out the other day ran fine.now im hearing a clunking sounds like v drive?felt down there and listen with a long screw driver hard to tell? forward or reverse doesnt mater.haveing said all that ijust wanted to give you a little history.i have been a boat mech for years. but dont get to work on in boards.do stern drives and outboards.oils still look new i dont see any metal.any help would be great thanks bcclew
 
Are these sounds coming from the bellhousing. Can only draw on my experience with a damaged damper flex plate attached as a coupler to the flywheel and trans. Check the diagram in the parts book
 
Sounds will travel thru the drive line metal very easily.

Like Knuckle, I'm thinking the flex plate, especially if the old one was re-used with the long blocks.
