No water

How are you testing your work ?-----In a bucket the water MUST be 6" above the impeller.----Or is your tell tale hose plugged ?---What did the old impeller look like ?
 
I used water muffs to test it. Maybe I'll try the bucket tonight with the 6 inch rule that you mentioned. It's my brother's motor and he said he may have sucked up so mud. The old impeller looks to be in good condition. Thanks for your help.

Whether the pump is good or bad, you cannot test a water pump by running on muffs. The pump is not pumping under such conditions, only allowing hose water to flow through.

Try running it and poking some wire up the peehole see if it starts peeing and check if its overheating or not. Some compressed air into to the peehole is worth a try too.
 
OP probably gone now....sounds as though he wants to finish the job. But mud is telling me either the pee hole is gooped, or crap back at the elbow.
 
The pee hole is clear, I took off the water manifold and it was dry. I poured water into it with a funnel and it ran down through th e water pick up.so I'm thinking there must be something plugged up past the copper water tube going into the bottom of the engine. I'm back to square one.
 
What I did in this situation was to get a water pump, connect it to the water tube (leg off) and push water through the system until it came out somewhere, if you can get water out the pee hole at leas that path is clear and then just try holding a finger over the pee hole so all the pressure goes into the head and see what gives.
If you don't have a water pump try compressed air, as previously mentioned.

If nothing wroks, lift the head and check the water passages. I lifted one recently with an engine that wouldn't cool and it has half a beach around the bottom cylinder and there was no way that was getting cleared out without lifting the head.
