Hello all,
I have search around alot of forums and read lots of post...but this forum is the best one I have seen and has lots of info.I am a Cummins diesel teck(highway engines) and know my way around engines. However marine engines are a differnt world as I have seen..I have a 1987 sunbird corsair with a 3.0L mercruiser sterndrive that I bought last summer.Ran all summer with no issues,I winterized with overtons winter kit and coverd boat..Last week I pulled it out and done a service on it changed oil and filter, drain and replace out drive oil and new gas.Installed muffs to drive turn hose wide open and started the engine.I walked around and seen NO water returinig from the out drive I shut it down and and checked everything all seems ok no water leaking from the water pump on the engine I removed the big hose and the small hose at the TS housing and no water is coming out.Does this mean my engine water pump is shot or is there another pump i should be looking for or maybe clogs??? many thanks go out to all your help in this matter......Im a newbe at boats thanks again

I would strongly encourage you to stop using those silly winterizing kits.... or you may end up with a expensive piece of cracked cast iron.

Please read this.

It will help you understand just how these kits are erroneously passed off to work, and more importantly what the kits DO NOT DO, and the inherant risks when used.

No.... the engine circulating pump is likely OK.

Yes..... this would be your sea water pump, and will be located in the upper section of your lower drive unit.
Pick up an OEM service manual for your engine/drive.

is this a common problem with this kind of out drive? also i cant seem to find the part my drive ser# is 0B685105
also is this repair somthing i can do myself in my shop at home..thanks for the response so fast

Patrick, the OEM service manual will show you how to drain the oil, and where the lower-to-upper fasteners are.... including a hidden fastener that is above the trim fin/torque tab.

Once apart, you'll see the sea water pump.
The manual will show you how to remove it.

The pumps are not typically a problem until they age, or have been run "dry", or when the impeller has been left in the pump body for too long a duration, etc.
An impeller that has been sitting at rest within the pump body, eventually takes a "set", and is no longer resilient.

One accidental "dry start" can ruin an impeller.

thanks for your help I will be picking a kit up today and making the repairs this weekend..is there a certin gaskets/seals i should ask for?

You might want to try to back flush from the TC housing to see if you get any water coming out the outdrive. If not it could be the hose that enters the engine through the transition is clogged. It a small hose and if not properly place and sized it could clog up or kink, It could be from age or also the impeller parts. I would try the backflow first and then the fresh water impeller replacement. When you replace the impeller make sure all the impeller pieces are accounted for.
