NO WATER PUMPING OUT OF 77 MERCURY 700 70 HP

"I JUST GOT MY FIRST BOAT LAST

"I JUST GOT MY FIRST BOAT LAST WEEKEND. IT'S A 24 FT PONTOON WITH A 1977 MERCURY 700 (70 HP). WHEN I GOT HOME I HOOKED UP THE HOSE TO THE FLUSHER AND CRANK THE BOAT AND IT RAN GREAT! WATER WAS PUMPING OUT THE "PEE" HOLE, AND EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE! LATER ON I CRUNK IT AGAIN, BUT I FORGOT TO TURN THE WATER BACK ON. I REALIZED THIS AFTER ONLY MAYBE A MINUTE AND I SHUT THE BOAT OFF. I WAITED A WHILE, HOOKED UP THE WATER AND CRUNK IT AGAIN, BUT I NOTICED NO WATER WAS RUNNING OUT OF THE PEE HOLE. I TOOK THE VENTS OFF THE SIDE WHERE THE WATER GOES IN AND THERE WAS BIG CHUNKS OF RUBBER IN THEM. AFTER SOME RESEARCH I FOUND OUT IT WAS THE WATER PUMP IMPELLER. I WENT TODAY AND GOT THE WHOLE KIT AND PUT IT IN. I WAS VERY CAREFUL WITH EVERYTHING, I EVEN MADE SURE THE IMPELLER BLADES WERE TURNING THE RIGHT DIRECTION. BUT WHEN I GOT IT BACK TOGETHER, I STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM! NO WATER! I THOUGHT MAYBE THE PIECES OF RUBBER WERE JUST STOPPING UP THE TUBE, BUT I STUCK A WIRE IN IT, AND IT SEEMS TO BE CLEAR. I EVEN BLEW IN IT AND EVERYTHING SEEMED TO BE CLEAR. I HAVE RUN OUT OF THINGS TO TRY! ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED! THE KIDS WERE REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO GOING FISHING THIS WEEKEND, SO I AM HOPING TO HAVE IT FIXED! I THOUGHT MAYBE THE IMPELLER IS TURNED THE WRONG WAY. THE GUY AT THE MARINE STORE TOLD ME TO BE SURE I PUT IT IN CLOCKWISE. BUT I GUESS IT DEPENDS ON WHICH WAY YOU ARE LOOKING AT IT. COULD IT BE THAT I HAVE IT IN WRONG? I TOOK IT BACK APART TWICE, AND THE IMPELLER SEEMS FINE. IF IT WAS IN WRONG WOULDN'T IT DAMAGE THE IMPELLER? ANY ADVICE? THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR TIME!"

Have you aligned the rubber connecting tube between pump housing and up-take correctly? This is a common fault, hence no water being pushed through. Maybe this rubber tube is perished? Are you getting water out from the exhaust? Might be that the pisser is blocked? Remove pisser hose from powerhead and check for blockage.

Make sure that your gas is mixed 50:1!

Also worth your while to make sure that the lower case lube is good, water gets in EVERYWHERE...

The impeller gets turned Cloc

The impeller gets turned Clockwise looking down at lower unit !
If you didnt get all the pieces out it could be blocking off your flow!
Air (compressed ) usually helps clean out by blowing thru the tube and the (tell tale ) and water can be forced thru the water tube when lower unit is off to aid in pushing out lodged pieces...

Surely you replaced the key that locks the impeller to the shaft !!

"Thank you all for your time and advice. There is water coming out of the exhaust. So I am going to get the air compresser out this afternoon. I did replace the key correctly. I was very careful about that. I am still not sure the I put the impeller in correct, so I will check that again too! Thanks again everyone!"
 
I just got home and had this f

I just got home and had this fixed in just a few minutes! The tube was not lined up correctly! Thanks Benjamin Jones! And thanks to all of the rest of you too!
 
"Pull your lower unit and stic

"Pull your lower unit and stick a water hose into the water tube going to the block. Pull the therostate housing and flush ,see if water is going through the block ,old pump parts may be stuck in block .. use air pressire if needed"
