Hi guys. Happy Fathers Day.
I was hooking up a tach on my 94 225 Ocean Pro. I had a couple, and I twisted tach wire connections onto the harness ring connectors.(black-,grey-pulse,,purple+). Neither worked, but I may have allowed +and- to touch while the engine was running. I had started and shut off the engine several times and I don"t remember whether it was immediately after I crossed the wires or whether I actually crossed the wires, but here finally is the point. I turned the key to start the engine and I got absolutely nothing. The tilt trim switch stopped functioning as well (at the helm and on the motor). I disconnected it and jumped it to raise the engine. The tach cable does plug into the main harness, but the tilt harness is independent. The trim motor works. So far I have:visually inspected the wiring from the key switch to the engine connection(red plug). No obvious problem spots. I unplugged the key switch (6 pin) and tried 2 other switches with the emergency cutoff connected. I checked battery cable connections and connections to the solenoid and starter. All were clean and tight. I disconnected the batteries, and with the key on, I jumped the starter and got spark, but the engine did not start. I installed a spare ECM and with all connections redone, I got the same result.(engine turns with spark but doen't start) No tilt trim by switch. I don"t believe in coincidence but what did I do?
